Accountability Edinburgh is an ambitious accounting practice seeing tremendous growth in its client base. Based in Edinburgh, they offer digital accounting consultancy, training, payroll and virtual finance team services.  

Accountability Edinburgh has seen a significant and sustained increase in client numbers over the last 24 months. As this is set to continue, they are now looking to add support to their payroll team and are recruiting for a motivated individual to support our delivery in this crucial service area.

There are strong prospects to advance within the practice, taking on responsibility for looking after clients and also to supervise the work of more junior staff as candidates advance in their studies and experience.

Responsibilities

Payroll Tasks

  1. Process payroll for client employees accurately and promptly, following internal processes, controls and procedures
  2. Deal with new starters, leavers, salary adjustments
  3. Calculation of statutory pay and leave
  4. Management of holiday records where required
  5. Preparation of manual calculations to check your work
  6. Ensure required submissions are made to HMRC and pension providers
  7. Manage processing of payment files, where required
  8. To liaise with clients and their employees, providing information as required
  9. Preparation of payroll journals and other ad-hoc reporting requirements as directed by the Payroll Manager.

Administrative

  1. Accurate filing and record keeping
  2. Preparation and maintenance of process maps
  3. To assist the team with the smooth running of the practice, to include answering the telephone, dealing with queries and other administrative tasks, as required.

Purpose driven

  1. Participate in company fundraising and volunteering activities.
  2. Support Accountability Edinburgh's carbon reduction activities.

Who we're looking for

The ideal candidate should have completed the CIPP Payroll Technician qualification or equivalent and have at least 1-2 years of payroll experience.

To be considered, candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of payroll routines, and to demonstrate understanding of auto-enrolment legislation
  • An extremely focused with a strong attention to detail and a highly organised approach
  • Enthusiasm to learn and motivation to commit to ongoing training
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and ethical behaviour
  • The ability to communicate effectively with clients. This is a vital area of our delivery and requires frequent and effective communication
  • The ability to work independently and productively
  • Support for the purpose and mission of Accountability Edinburgh.

In addition, candidates may also be able to demonstrate:

  • Familiarity with payroll softwares including Brightpay and Xero
  • Experience with pension platforms including Smart Pensions, Nest, Penfold and Peoples Pension
  • A solid understanding of excel

What you can expect:

  • A salary band of between £26,750 and £31,000 FTE, reviewed at least annually
